Shinola Birdy Watch, Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s “My Last Door”

Partnership between Shinola and the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, 2021

In my role as Curator of Fine Art at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, I also managed licensing and design partnerships. So when Shinola came to us wanting to create a limited-edition Georgia O’Keeffe watch in their Great American series, I got inspired. I don’t know when my love of watches began, but by the time this project fell into my lap, I had some pretty clear ideas about what an O’Keeffe watch should look like. We had a woman’s watch, the Birdy, as a template, and I introduced the hand-hammering and monochromatic face, with hour markers like the stepping stones in O’Keeffe’s patio, and a date window inspired by her painting My Last Door (1952-1954).
