Contemporary Voices: Ken Price
Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, 2019
I have been a huge fan of Ken Price ever since I saw his sensational retrospective at LACMA in 2012. In fact, it’s probably what inspired me to want to do my show with Ron Nagle. Before I moved from San Diego to Santa Fe, one of my first associations with Northern New Mexico (alongside Georgia O’Keeffe) was Ken Price out in Taos. So it felt only natural, with the support of the Price family, to present his work (both sculptures and works on paper) at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. The affinity between Price’s ceramic sculptures and O’Keeffe’s paintings was something ineffable, that had to be seen to be understood. But the kinship between O’Keeffe’s watercolors and Price’s work on paper was striking.
